EXCLUSIVE from WEESP - News & Teaser Video of New Single, 'Murderers'!

Weesp for those that don't know are a alternative rock/electronic rock band from Minsk. I have been a fan of their 'spacey out of this world sound' for a while now, and the band have very kindly given me some exclusive news and an awesome teaser video of their new single due out 18th May 2015! See below!

Weesp announces new single coming out May 18th. It would be the first track from upcoming album The Void.

The Void is the 6th bands release and 1st full length album. It will contain much heavier and melodic tracks with many electronic experiments compared to previous releases.

Check out a teaser clip of the dark new video for the upcoming single, 'Murderers':

KING LEVIATHAN ANNOUNCE NEW E.P and RELEASE SHOW

Having only spent just over a year together as a band, Brighton’s KING LEVIATHAN are quickly rising through the ranks of the UK's underground scene with a reputation for blistering tight-as-nails performances that belies the band members ages of just 18 to 23. Last year saw them showcase their brand of 'cultist thrash' across the UK including an appearance at Mammothfest and a main support slot to thrash legends ‘DARKEST HOUR’.

King Leviathan's new E.P 'THE SHRINE' will be released on May 31st.
Track Listing:
WORMWOOD
BORN OF THE BLACKEST HEARTS
SKIN FROM BONE
MADNESS MADE DIVINE
SHRINE

The follow-up to their self-titled 2014 debut, this new 5 track offering 'THE SHRINE' is a marked step forward for the four piece and was recorded over a week long period at Brighton Electric with Producer Paul 'Win' Winstanley at the helm.

"We knew we wanted the next E.P to be bigger and better in all aspects - and Win's work with 'Sea Bastard', 'Whitemare' and early 'Black Peaks' stuff really impressed us! So we hit the studio, and before we knew it we were smashing beer kegs with hammers, scoring violin stabs and laying down choir vocals... Nuts!"

KING LEVIATHAN will be giving a few of these new songs an airing throughout May including dates with Vulgate, the Metal To The Masses Brighton final and finally playing the whole E.P in full when supporting Australian thrash masters 'ELM STREET' at The Prince Albert Brighton, before heading out across the UK in June with 'ABHORRENT DECIMATION.

"We can't wait to get these new tunes out there, we think it's easily the best stuff we've written to date and we're eager to see if the crowds enjoy hearing it as much as we do playing it!"

Catch them live at the following shows in May:

Bar 42, Worthing - *Headline*. Sat 2nd
Finns, Weymouth - *w/ The Rocket Dolls*. Fri 15th
Head Of Steam, Newcastle - *w/ Vulgate*. Tues 19th
King Billy, Northampton - *w/ Vulgate*. Weds 20th

Luna Rise - 'Smoking Kills, But Love Can Break A Heart' EP Review

Luna Rise from Austria are a melodic rock band who intertwine goth, melancholic pop, hard rock and more to unleash something unique and find the balance of heavy yet emotional soothing explorations. Having just recently signed with NRT-Records they decide to re-issue their momentous EP, ‘Smoking Kills, But Love Can Break A Heart’ for those who may have missed it...

Opening song, ‘When You Fall’ captures their signature sound perfectly, so it’s no surprise it was released as a single. It’s catchy yet with a heavy backdrop with complex guitar riffs and dark brooding deep vocals, all kept coherent with a flowing current of fierce energy with a slight creepy vibe, aided by the keys, making this a great gothic anthem!

‘Dead Alley’ succeeds in being even more melodic especially as it’s driven by emotion – this is such a slick smooth track, which embodies the dark sound exhibited by the mighty guitars and synths along with the lighter elements portrayed by the lyrics, vocals and strong euphonious harmonies. Not to mention it features one of the most memorable choruses so far!

‘616’ has extremely infectious melodies and riffs all crafted in an eerie and eager fashion! The instrumentation is cleverly wrapped around Chris’s emotional vocals, creating the mood desired; their characteristic mighty melodic Goth tinged rock.

‘Glory Nightmare’ has an urgency to it and is also the heaviest song featured which dives straight in, being fast paced with well complimented vocals from Chris Devine and complex skilled chunky guitar riffs and licks from Chris and Andy, an extra depth and atmosphere is aided by synths from L.X.

‘Beautiful Monster’ flows wonderfully on from the previous song and has a high impact, being a slow yet deadly power ballad! This is full of ‘divine’ harmonies, well-structured guitars and instruments, as well as Chris’s emotive charming delivery – all dancing and seeping effortlessly together to create pandemonium, in a deliciously dark epic manner!

We are graced with some extra beauties in the form of an acoustic version of, ‘When You Fall’ which shows of Chris’s impressive varied vocals, in this stripped down rendition, which remains highly melodic, with his vocals being the main focus…and he shines in the spotlight, no doubt aided by his passion and charisma which oozes off him! The next bonus is a remix of ‘Dead Alley’ which is even more brooding and atmospheric, with a heavy prominent dark beat and highlights the haunting keys and synth sounds.

The band are in their element on this EP, so I can see why they reissued it again, because if you haven’t yet had the pleasure of hearing them, this EP is the definitely the place to start, especially ahead of their upcoming album, ‘Dark Days & Bright Nights’. Yes on this EP you can draw similarities to other acts, but this isn’t their intention and I think this is made clear; they have created a luscious beautiful dark medley, which the masses can sink their teeth into! Luna Rise simply thrive on this EP through sheer passion and talent, which no doubt they will portray on their anticipated album!

Mannequin - Harpy Doll Review - Extreme Metal With A Twist!

Mannequin are a recently formed extreme metal duo from the North-East of England, consisting of Benjó James (vocals) and Jack Wilson (guitars) who manage to create a hell of a loud high impact sound!..

'Harpy Doll' taken from their first EP 'From January to Funeral March' is quite something, largely sounding bleak, dark and brutal but with glimpses of hope, shown through the melodic flurries, which strike hard, especially as it's unexpected, but works wonderfully in this brutal relentless track! You are bombarded and astounded throughout this epic seven minute masterpiece, with its fast thrash instruments, gothic creepy undertones, and cunning devious lyrics, which are delivered and match the sound of the song superbly with brilliant extreme vocals from BenjóBenjó's vocals are made all the more impressive by the fact that he remains audible and understandable still even when screaming, which can be a struggle sometimes within this genre. By the end of the song you are left almost speechless with what you have witnessed, but in a good sense, as it feels wonderfully weird and strange!

This creative brooding pair are very talented at what they do, as well as the overall production of the song, and have managed to create a deliciously dark innovative sound, which will certainly make them stand out from the crowd! This song embraces their essence and I for one have been drawn in and I'm eager to hear more of their extreme dark metal infused with dark gothic vibes! Luckily we won't have to wait long as their new EP, 'Science (cruci)Fiction' is out this week!

SPINEFARM DROPS THE NEEDLE FOR RECORD STORE DAY 2015..

Releases from Turbowolf, Atreyu, Venom & SikTh confirmed for April 18th release…

SPINEFARM RECORDS will be supporting Record Store Day 2015 with a number of releases highlighting different aspects of the rock ‘n’ metal genre…

Taking said genre into brave new worlds are UK riff-gurus Turbowolf, who have just released their new / second studio album, ‘Two Hands’, via Spinefarm Records / Search & Destroy. Having recently toured with both Royal Blood & Death From Above 1979, advocates of the Turbowolf cause, the Bristol quartet are now very much on an upward trajectory, with Radio 1 playing the recent singles (‘Rabbits Foot’ & ‘Nine Lives’), and a headline UK tour currently underway…

On the other side of the Atlantic, Atreyu are a band who have already left a serious mark… One of the key architects of the '00s American metal resurgence, selling over a million albums in a 10 year period, the Orange County outfit simmered on the back-burner after 2009… but now they’re back in business with a brand new studio album, set for release via Spinefarm Records / Search & Destroy in late summer / early autumn 2015, backed by a comprehensive touring plan.

Just as Atreyu were breaking big in the US, so UK sextet SikTh were turning heads with their debut album, ‘The Trees Are Dead & Dried Out Wait For Something Wild’; released in 2003, the record showcased a style combining elements of extreme metal, tech metal, prog & spoken word with plate-juggling musicianship & extended atmospheric passages to create a style that has cast a huge shadow over the past ten years of rock.

‘The Trees Are Dead…’ now achieves double vinyl status for the very first time, supported by selected international shows featuring the reformed original line-up.

Meanwhile, nestling under the ‘none more legendary’ banner, there’s Newcastle ne’er-do-wells Venom – a band who not only invented a new category of extreme music (‘Black Metal’), but who continue to be a significant international force in darker circles, playing shows around the world and generally spreading the message for no-compromise heavy metal of maleficent intent.

Released in January of this year, new Venom album, ‘From The Very Depths’, is right up there with the best of their work, and April 18th sees it being released on (double) vinyl for the first time.

SPINEFARM RECORDS: ‘RECORD STORE DAY’ DETAILS:-

VENOM – ‘From The Very Depths’. 14 tracks, ltd edition double red vinyl, gatefold sleeve, lyrics, satan approved.

TURBOWOLF – ‘Solid Gold’ / ‘Rabbits Foot’. 2-track 10” single, marbled black & white vinyl, postcard.

SIKTH – ‘The Trees Are Dead & Dried Out Wait For Something Wild’. 18 tracks (including 4 bonus tracks), gatefold sleeve, lyrics, sleeve-notes, band commentary.

ATREYU – ‘So Others May Live’ / ‘When The Day is Done’. 2-track 7” single featuring new music, including current single / video ‘So Others May Live’.

Mammothfest TV - Show 2 - UK Festivals, Extreme Metal, Comedy & Live performances!

Mammothfest tv is an excellent medium to discover and appreciate new emerging and heavyweight metal acts within the UK and around the world, and is something we are in need of, as there's not a lot of shows around like this! Discussed in this latest episode is the thriving metal scene from extreme metal and UK festivals, including Damnation Festival and Temples Festival, and of course previews of the international bands that are due to grace our ears at Mammothfest 2015! They also mention worthy bands that help create the amazing metal scene we have such as:

Killswitch Engage, Mask of Judas, Sam Bell Guitar (Mask of Judas), Valis Ablaze, Taken by the Tide, Derelict Dream, Benighted, Cancerous Womb, Abhorrent Decimation, PRIMITIVE MAN, Sea Bastard, Converge, Will Haven, SYN:DROM, Scarred, Damned Spring Fragrantia, Stormcast, Cyclamen, Psycroptic and more!

All this is delivered in a sincere, down to earth and passionate manner from founder and creator of Mammothfest, the legend that is, Steve Dickson, along with his hung over suffering co-host, Adam Sedgwick who as a result adds to the comedic value amongst the serious carnage of metal offerings featured in this episode, which ends in an aggressive and explosive manner, in the form of an live performance (featured in every show) from Last Days Of Rome!

This is a great channel to watch out for, only two episodes in so far, so they are new to this, but so far....so metal! They already have a great balance of music news and content, as well as some humour in there which I think any metal head will appreciate! So why not get involved and send in your suggestions to Mammothfest along with funny clips, so they can unleash them upon the world to further spoil us with entertainment! Keep an eye out for the next show!

Check out the culprit in question:

Check out the mighty festival in question's insane line-up below! You would be mad to miss it's stampede into Brighton this October!

fREEX Artist Focus - "Free Expression" Champions!

fREEX from San Franciso Bay Area are driving a forefront of an emerging new genre, known as “Free Expression” by creating their own unique sound by using the essence of punk, grunge, funk and more! For their bold and creative methods they are the front runners of this new exciting scene which is waiting to explode!

‘God, I Love America’ is a great introductory to the band’s sound and style and what they embody! Treating us to a bit of blues, melodic harmonies and then manic grunge punk group chants and bursts of loudness to keep you guessing, making a quick transition between mellow sounds and madness in an unpredictable but very welcome manner!

‘Is There Something Wrong’ best displays their elements of alternative rock and pop, especially present in the beaming chorus! This is completely different sounding to the first song I listened to – you wouldn’t know it’s the same band, but just demonstrates their vastness and creative diversity!

‘Mental Rental’ dives right in with speedy aggressive angry urgent punk screams, helping to reflect an unsteady state of mind as intended, as well as featuring ridiculously high pitched comedic vocals and lyrics, making this a brilliantly strange, creative and bizarre track, but in the greatest way which will put a smile on your face! This represents what they are all about – having fun and doing something different with no ‘constraints’ like that of a ‘mental’ patient!

‘Box’ is a fast paced senseless crazy fun song which is short lived but does the job, delivering a dramatic grunge anthem infused with punk sounds, paying homage to the classic punk scene, as well as rock ‘n’ roll style sounds, portrayed through the instruments – this ‘box’ fits a hell of a lot in it!

‘Lysine’ embraces their funky vibes the most, particularly through basslines and instruments with funny deranged high toned vocals, helping with the concept of taking ‘lysine’ and portrays the ‘effects’ it may have, once again making for a highly memorable experience! Amongst all this, a sombre pure grunge tinged chorus lurks, and then some more seriously funky bass and guitar riffs/licks are thrown in and creepy out of this world sound effects to add to the mix bag of strangeness and freedom!

I can see why they refer to their sound as ‘free expression’, as this simply describes what they are doing; throwing whatever they want in and having a hell of a lot of fun, without taking themselves too seriously, all the while creating brilliant light hearted credible music that anyone can enjoy! Their current songs are actually a few years old now, as the band are gearing up to release their debut album this Spring, so while we wait for that inevitably exciting concoction of genres to be unleashed, take a listen to their current material, as this is one distinctive and emerging band you should watch out for!

Majentta - Burst

Looking for upcoming talent which is different and inspiring..Majentta a new female artist from LA is one to look out for! She has just released a new video and single called, 'Burst' which is powerful, atmospheric and haunting, which displays her beautiful unique far reaching vocals which fit the video perfectly. The video itself is mysterious, dark and compelling and more than just your average music video, being more like a mini film, which is rather impressive especially considering by an independent artist; So the video and song combined make quite an first impression! I for one am intrigued to hear more of her sombre alternative rock/pop sound and see how the music will be portrayed visually!

Be sure to check out the brilliant video in question for 'Burst':
