Straight Line Stitch – Transparency EP Review

Female fronted American Heavy Metal band return with new EP, ‘Transparency’ following their 2014 self-titled EP, no doubt to wet our appetites while we wait for the upcoming full length release they are working on!...

‘Out Of The Shadows’ acts as a prologue which is eerie, atmospheric and sets the scene and flows effortlessly into, ‘Dark Matter’ which packs a punch with its fast driven hooks, superb sincere clean melodic vocals paired with divergent insane screamed vocals from Alexis, doing what she does best! This is a definite highlight, which has the ratio of melodic and metal nailed! The instruments compliment her vocals wonderfully and help add extra intrigue and depth..

‘Out Of Body’ opens on a soothing intro, which shows their softer side in contrast. This has tonnes of passion and heartfelt vocals, aided by the ambient and intricate layered instruments. Although this is mellower it still asserts itself strongly, just as much as when they are throwing everything heavy and angry at you! It leaves you hanging onto every note intently, while it washes over you!

‘Face Of God’ sees their fierce side return in bursts, with charged hooks and quick transitions between clean melodies and relentless heavy sections! Again the overall sound is far reaching and powerful, showing their natural musical progression and growth along with their well-loved signature sound.

Carrying on into ‘Wilderness’, Alexis impresses with her demanding and interchangeable vocals yet again, which at times can be inhospitable in the greatest sense; that along with pounding guitars, strong melodies and substantial drumming, makes this a memorable offering. This one takes you on a great journey again going into new territory slightly with an air of appreciative familiarity.

All good things must come to an end so, ‘Human Bondage’ does the honours. This may well be one of the best songs featured also, as it is the most varied, embracing all their strongest elements with soaring vocals both aggressively and passionately, and embodies their ‘dark’ and softer side in an immense and epic all-consuming manner!

This new, much needed EP is seeping with their characteristic unique combination of heavy yet massively catchy hooks and stunning melodic powerful vocals, but also sees glimpses of their new musical direction which when united, makes this one seriously solid and striking sound! I for one can’t wait to hear their next full length, as this is surely paving the way for what is to come. And they will easily rise the ranks further and command new fans as a result!

'Transparency' is released on 30th June through Pavement Entertainment!

MAMMOTHFEST ANNOUNCES STAGE SPLITS AND MORE BANDS!!

MAMMOTHFEST GETS BOLD and ANNOUNCES STAGE LINE UPS with YET MORE BANDS!

MAMMOTHFEST have managed to bring back an exceptional band ONCE A WOLF from the dead along with the additions of SEETHING AKIRA, METAPRISM, LAST DAYS OF ROME and INEO to the main event in 2015.

As well as the mighty ONSLAUGHT we are proud to welcome LAST DAYS OF ROME to the event. With obliterating Meshuggah style riffs, off kilt time signatures and poly rhythms there is no better way to start MAMMOTHFEST 2015 than by fucking with your heads:

INEO are a 4 piece instrumental band with a strong likeness to Animals as Leaders but with their own unique styles that recently kept new fans locked in with blistering performances on their recent MAMMOTHFEST South coast tour. Arriving early is recommended to see them and all the other bands and cement your place in this small (destined to be sold out soon) up close and personal show with FEED THE RHINO who are also confirmed for Reading and Leeds festival MAIN STAGE no less. Rarely will you get to see such a massive band so close you can smell em:

So high was the standard of METAPRISM at one of the recent MAMMOTHFEST BEST OF BRITISH shows that we literally had to secure them there and then following their immediate performance. An exceptional band that are already confirmed for Bloodstock festival this year, we welcome them to this disgusting line up of extreme metal:

SEETHING AKIRA have been devastating stages all over the country including UK TECH FEST and TAKE DOWN FESTIVAL so it its only natural that we get these crazy bastards in to headline our RIKSTOCK stage for 2015 the Saturday night.

We are also very proud to announce that we have successfully managed to get a wonderful band back together for one final show. There was an incredibly hot act in the south coast a few years ago but following some internal turmoil the band unfortunately split with certain bands members even going to the extent of blocking each other on certain social media platforms.

MAMMOTHFEST has never been one to shy away from a challenge so we set about rekindling their friendships (which come on, has to be the most important things in life) and proudly we present their return for one night only: ONCE A WOLF! Tech heads be prepared to have your nut contents rearranged.

Following the sell out in 2014, Mammothfest is looking stronger and strong in an ever more volatile festival market. Some festivals are crumbling, cancelling on occasion and creating increasing ill confidence. The big 4 bands are getting older, who will replace them or will we see a change in the way festivals have to set out their events to survive the suspected pending festival apocalypse that seems to be a hot topic at the moment?

And...What is all this MAMMOTHFEST fuss about?

Mammothfest may have the answer as their director Stephen Dickson explains: "In my humble opinion Festivals need to stop being so greedy and start providing cost friendly events and invest more in the future of our industry - the rising bands, without them we have no events.

The standard of the bands i see at a more underground level are so good that you really don't need to pay silly money to see the same big bands so, I encourage people to open their minds and support ventures like Mammothfest and the bands we are supporting because they are ridiculous!

Stephen Dickson (MF director) continues: "We believe in value for money and are confident there is not another festival in the UK where you can see nearly 100 incredibly high caliber bands for only £60 over 3 days and 4 venues including the likes of ONSLAUGHT, FEED THE RHINO, HANG THE BASTARD, PSYCROPTIC, @SYN:DROM, AMPUTATED and more.

Not only that, if you don't want to buy a weekend ticket, you don't have too. Why not buy a day ticket to one of the venues for only £15. If you don't have £15 you can make a donation to the Brain tumour charity at the Albert stages on the Saturday and Sunday and still see 28 incredible bands!

Klogr - 'Make Your Stand' EP Review

Italian Alternative metal quartet Klogr return with follow up to their album, 'Black Snow' with new EP, 'Make Your Stand'..

The EP kicks off with, 'Breaking Down' which hits hard from the off with it's thrash inspired instruments, interesting dynamic time signatures and Rusty's varied powerful vocals, which are both demanding and melodic. Rusty's vocals perfectly compliment the changeable flow of the complex structure of emotions exhibited through the instruments, which are well executed and demonstrate the bands collective talent and unity!

Next we have the title track, 'Make Your Stand' which features endless intelligible and bouncy guitar work keeping things energetic and memorable. Rusty again shows off his vocal capabilities, going from stand out clean melodic to fierce growls, which adds extra depth and emphasis. To see us out we are graced with more impressive guitar work accompanied by mean grunts and pounding drums, all making for a very catchy title track, which could well be a fan favourite!

To bring the EP to a close is, 'Breathing Heart' which shows off their softer side in this powerhouse ballad, which still packs a punch with it's progressive elements, strong riffs and sinister yet pleasing melodies and sounds! Not to mention one hell of a guitar solo, which you come to expect from guitarist, PQ with the aid of Rusty as back up, he is quite the guitar virtuoso! This last song is the most surprising, and in my opinion is the stand out song of the bunch, showing more emotion, diversity and maturity.

This is a striking EP, fuelled by excitement, creativity, passion and sheer talent! They have a brilliant fresh inspired sound which combines alt rock, metal, thrash and progressive elements, making them a innovative force to be reckoned with! This EP will certainly satisfy existing fans, and is bound to expand their presence and new followers also!

Amaranthe Reveal New Video for ‘Digital World’‏

Amaranthe Reveal New Video for ‘Digital World’

http://www.vevo.com/watch/FIUV71500012

Amaranthe’s ‘Digital World’ follows ‘Drop Dead Cynical’, the supremely catchy first single from current album, ‘Massive Addictive’; ‘Drop Dead Cynical’ has broken the doors open for the band on a worldwide scale, gaining the best international radio airplay of their career.

Amaranthe vocalist, Jake E, says: "‘Digital World' follows the overwhelmingly successful 'Drop Dead Cynical,’ which charted high on radio and single charts all over the world, to our massive excitement! It has even been a staple song for the Detroit Red Wings NHL games! Now we're back with what is probably our best and most well-produced video to date, and most importantly, a song that is already a fan (and band) favourite.”

Check out the brand new video for ‘Digital World’ here: http://www.vevo.com/watch/FIUV71500012

Amaranthe are now back in the US for a tour with label-mates Santa Cruz.

King Leviathan - The Shrine EP Review

King Leviathan are a four piece thrash band from Brighton obsessed with the occult, and having only been together just over a year, they are quickly building their campaign of followers and stamping their mark into Brighton’s ever growing music scene! With their memorable brutal live shows, including performing at Brighton’s very own metal festival, Mammothfest, and the impressive accolade of being main support for Darkest Hour! This young band in both age and formation have accomplished a lot already, and they return with their follow up to their debut with new EP, ‘The Shrine’ ready to conquer..

First song, ‘Wormwood’ gets off to a blistering start with powerful striking vocals and insane guitar work. This embraces modern and classic thrash, in an melodic manner which will wiggle and rive in your mind and introduces their style and context for the EP wonderfully...

‘Born Of The Blackest Hearts’ boasts demanding vocals and colossal instrumentation, this is one dark beastly offering! ‘Skin From Bone’ breaks out into a brilliant instrumental opening fuelled by melodic guitar licks, before bursting into full thrash mode accompanied by Adam’s demonic vocals, which are complimented by clean stand out sections from Rob and Sam. Rob again pelts out his ferocious guitar skills, making this a ‘bone’ crushing number!

‘Madness Made Divine’ highlights Adam’s mammoth vocals which fittingly have an air of mania, which truly suits this genre. The instruments rampage on in a relentless and determined wave of well...Madness!

Last song and title track, ‘The Shrine’ displays the most variety, with changeable atmospheric sections and time signatures, which help give more depth and emphasis in parts, such as the gleaming clean sections, menacing choir effects and ringing drums, resulting in dramatic dark ambience which rounds of the EP superbly and in an valiant fashion!

This offering is coherent, intelligible and oppressive in the greatest sense. Their immense sound really shines through in a bold and technical delivery; The have really brandished their signature sound into these callous clever gifts for ‘the old gods’ as the band say! Accept and embrace these well-crafted offerings and bring forth their inevitable new masses of deranged worshippers!

SPINEFARM RECORDS ACTS REPRESENT AT DOWNLOAD 2015!‏

STRONG PRESENCE FOR SPINEFARM ASTISTS AT UK’S PREMIER ROCK ‘N’ METAL EVENT…

All you rockers, ready to get down ‘n’ dirty at Donington with the Download Dog can lay witness to a plethora of Spinefarm bands on a variety of stages throughout the weekend (June 12-14); start out on the Friday with our lads in DECADE, who guarantee to get you jumpin’ for joy (just don’t expect them to replace the beer that’s sure to be all over your T-shirt/ shorts/ head).

Take a quick hop-step-lunge over to the third stage and get low for the mighty KROKODIL. A too-cool-for-school, arm cross and head nod is not going to cut it here; that growl from frontman Simon Wright will penetrate your soul and resonate in the pit of your stomach! EMBRACE THOSE RIFFS AND ROCK THE FUCK OUT.

Now that you’re suitably sticky, why not head over to THE CADILLAC THREE? If you follow in the band’s footsteps, you’ll soon be a few whiskeys in, “getting your buzz on!” But hey, “they’re southern and it ain’t their fault”…

What you do with Friday from then on is nothing to do with us! But make sure you get some shut eye as Saturday marks your opportunity to see the other-worldly magnificence that is PURSON…

A new signing for Spinefarm Records and a bloody exciting one, singer, guitarist, songwriter Rosalie Cunningham fronts this UK outfit whose music touches on a variety of realms, including folk, prog, psychedelic, gothic & classic rock. GROOVY!

But there’s no time for tired limbs on Sunday as that’s when those dashing Scandinavian siblings, VON HERTZEN BROTHERS, will be bringing their own brand of stadium rock to the stage. This will be their first ever Download appearance and it’s one certain to turn a few heads. If you’re a fan of Muse, Soundgarden, Foo Fighters or even Queen, VON HERTZEN BROTHERS have the credentials to become your new favourite band.

Now, I’ve heard rumours that you like your rock HARD? Well, I’ve got a treat for you: G.O.D.S.M.A.C.K. Oh yeah!!! Boston monsters of rock GODSMACK have been a much-missed commodity in the UK, having not played here in six years, so rev yourself up at that barrier, my friend, cos that fist has some air-pumping to do!

Talking of fists, grab all of your pals because Alaskan metallers 36 CRAZYFISTS are playing main stage, motherfuuuuckers! And, oh my, do they deserve it! Following the release of current album, ‘Time and Trauma’ – which won the guys top-notch reviews across the board and saw them playing every town on this little island of ours – they are back by popular demand. Come join Brock & Co. as they drag us all in for a bloody great bear-hug then spit us all out, wind-milling all over the place. THIS SHIT’S FOR REAAAAL!

AND SLEEP.
