Mammothfest UK First Announcement 2017! Rotting Christ UK Exclusive!

Mammothfest Brighton UK Announce First Acts Confirmed!

Mammothfest 2016 was a resounding success with heavyweight acts such as Textures, Venom Inc and Conan leading the metal assault that resulted in a near complete sell out, and saw the festival nominated for three festivals award nominations, including the UK Festival Awards in two categories, Best Metropolitan and Best Small Festival 2016 as well as the TBFM Best Independent Festival 2016. The festival continues to expand and grow each year and this year will be no exception…

Only one month into 2017 and Mammothfest have already announced the first 'Mammothfest presents' show in April, along with redesigning the artwork and concept. Now armed with the metal mammoth, we are getting straight to what we all want to know…the line-up for this year’s festival!

FRIDAY 6th OCTOBER 2017

ROTTING CHRIST UK EXCLUSIVE 2017 PERFORMANCE

That is right, in 2017 the only place you will be able to see Rotting Christ is at Mammothfest 2017!

Rotting Christ UK Festival Exclusive Headliners

Mammothfest is extremely proud and excited to announce the first headliner of 2017 is Rotting Christ! This Greek extreme metal band have been going since 1987 and are recognised as one of the first black metal bands within their region, earning them a revered status in the European underground metal scene early on, as well as impressively defining the unique signature Greek black metal sound that was especially present in the 1990s.

In their long career, they have released a hefty twelve studio albums, with the latest release, ‘Rituals’ (2016) being widely well received. Despite the fact they have been going for nearly three decades they are still going strong and asserting their dominance. Their name has even caused them controversy across the world, with demonstrations outside of their shows and Megadeth's Dave Mustaine refusing to share a stage with the band.

Rotting Christ has been busy in 2016 touring worldwide, but in 2017 they are doing only one UK appearance and they have decided that Mammothfest is the place to be, as they will be headlining the opening day of the festival on Friday 6th October 2017 on the Black metal stage for a UK exclusive performance!

Hailing from Oslo Norway we are extremely excited to announce the three piece TNBM stalwarts Tsjuder for a rare UK appearance as main support to Rotting Christ. Tsjuder formed in 1993, they released a few EP’s before signing to Drakkar Productions and releasing their first full album 'Kill For Satan' in 2000. They have since gone on to release four more albums. However, in 2006 they diminished briefly before fortunately reforming in 2010.

The band only made their live debut in the UK in 2015, which was the same year they released their fifth and current album ‘Antiliv’. Tsjuder is heading out on tour to South America in March 2017 and later in the year luckily they are gracing our UK shores yet again, to the joy of metal fans in Brighton. With an old school satanic Black Metal sound harking back to the style of the 80s and early 90s Black Metal bands, Tsjuder is an amazing live band. So, come and witness their uncompromising dark atmosphere at Mammothfest!

To open the mighty Black Metal stage and the entire festival is a regular Mammothfest extreme local metal act, Vehement. Hailing from the South Coast of England, Vehement have been flying the Black Metal flag in Sussex for many years, including winning the Metal 2 The Masses competition in 2016 for the area, leading them to wow the New Blood stage at Bloodstock that year. The band always go down a storm and are back again to raise hell and kick off this black metal extravaganza. With an eagerly awaited album due for release, we are sure there will be plenty of hype surrounded the band.

SATURDAY 7th OCTOBER 2017

EXTREME/DEATH METAL STAGE

On Saturday 7th October 2017 on the Death/Extreme metal stage, the headliner and main supports are yet to be unveiled. However, have no fear as we can confirm some acts, including some regular Mammothfest crowd pleasers, such as Meta-stasis who formed from two bands, Sikth and Ted Maul, and have been terrorising the masses ever since this mutation in 2012. They describe themselves as Psycho-Tech-Death-Neg Beat-Industrial-Lunatics! And have appeared at many festivals across Europe including BLOODSTOCK 2nd stage 2016, METAL DAYS 2013, touring with BEHEMOTH and KORPIKLAANI in INDIA twice this year as well as supporting bands such as Psycroptic from Australia, Ingested and many more. A new 3rd studio album is nearing completion, can the madness get any more divine!?

Next up is London metal act Death Remains whose debut 2013 album, ‘Stand.Fight.Believe’ received critical acclaim and have since built quite the reputation, with much hype about their anticipated sophomore album.

Lastly, ones to watch are Bleed Again, who are Brighton heroes and fan favourites at Mammothfest. In 2016, Bleed Again delivered one of the most memorable sets of the weekend, in which they filmed their latest song and video for the melodic ‘Through The Eyes’ and earned them one of the best crowd reactions of the whole festival. That along with their upcoming hot debut ‘Momentum’ out May this year, this year is their year and having already supported the likes of Soil, Darkest Hour and Devil Sold His Soul with their reputation for blistering live sets, you don’t want to miss them.

SUNDAY 8th OCTOBER 2017

STONER / DOOM STAGE

For Sunday 8th October 2017 on the Stoner Doom stage again the headliner and main support isn’t yet released but confirmed acts are the main man behind 40 Watt Sun, an alternative act from Devon, UK with Patrick Walker (only he is an original member, the rest will be session musicians) & OHHMS from Canterbury UK who have only been going since 2014 and have a unique stand out sound.

Lastly, emerging Brighton act, Grave lines (including Iron Giant from Sea Bastard) who are doing well for themselves, currently supporting Belgian act Oathbreaker will be smashing their way through their performance with some of the heaviest riffs of the weekend!

As well as the main stage there will be our beloved RIKSTOCK stage dedicated to providing a platform for our incredible emerging artists but more on this to be announced in the future.

Threatpoint - R.I.P Album Review

Threatpoint from Pennsylvania formed through the ashes of other bands in 2012 and pulled together to bring their array of influences within the genres of metal and rock to create their groove metal sound today. Since their formation they have unleashed two offerings, 'Careful What You Wish For' in 2014 and their debut self titled album in 2013. The band show they are still alive and kicking with their third full length album, 'R.I.P' which was unveiled to the world in October 2016.

New single title track ‘R.I.P’ opens the album and gets straight to the point with an ominous effect intro, before the melodic thrash guitars and crashing drums take control. Chris James' vocals spill out in a ferocious and speedy manner with an impressive screeching guitar solo taking hold also, all adding up to make sure this opener makes a hell of an impact.

‘Deadend Machineland’ is full of melodic riffs paired with thumping groove sections and packs a hefty chanted anthemic chorus, which is highly memorable and enjoyable. The whole song fires of like a machine gun in action...

Carrying on the theme of death and bleakness is ‘Tombstones of My Enemies’ which like the previous tracks possesses a serious groove factor, the band clearly revel here. Considering the context and lyrical meaning is morbid, it’s hard not to bounce around with enjoyment to the melodic metal sounds.

‘Light Bleeds Through The Black’ starts off with a crackling sombre intro, creating a dark atmosphere before great chugging riffs surface with catchy bass riffs giving more depth. The hushed eerie vocal sections paired with contrasting screams and very effective, and helps to embraces the context of song by combining softer or lighter moments that are seeped in darkness and heavier parts.

‘Bury The Wicked’ keeps the atmosphere sinister with occult/tribalistic sounds opening this one, before a barrage of storming riffs, vocals and fast drums take hold. This is a extremely depthful and technical track, making another highlight amongst the many.

‘Angels With Broken Wings’ (feat Lauren Balogh of Drama Scream/SuperRadical) graces us with a strong harmonised intro. It is a powerful, crushing, super melodic song, which features a perfect vocal duet with Lauren who offers mighty screams to compliment Chris, which is very impressive through it's talent and execution. Be sure to put this on repeat!

Closing song ‘Death Rides Again’ as you expect, goes out all guns blazing and highlights all their best elements we have seen throughout, making it a brilliant way to end and making a lasting impact.

R.I.P ironically is guaranteed to get you moving and headbanging from start to end with no rest or peace offered. It features an abundance of impressive lead guitars, unstoppable grooves and hard hitting melodies. Threatpoint clearly have a lot more to offer and show that they are full of energy and ideas with this new release.

Synaptik - 'Justify & Reason' Album Review

unnamed-27

British heavy metal five-piece, Synaptik from Norwich, UK have a mighty sound that combines thrash, power and progressive metal elements, forming to make their own unique concoction, that they have been delivering since their origins in 2012. Following their critically acclaimed 2014 debut album “The Mechanisms of Consequence”, they are back to make an huge impact with the anticipated new album, “Justify & Reason” which is released on March 10th. 2017 is the year of Synaptik, having already signed with DeFox and Heart Of Steal records as well as landing a US deal with Divebomb records and re-releasing a remixed heavier version of their hit debut. The sophomore album sees the band reach new heights, truly honing in on their already distinct sound, with a bigger focus on progressive depth and darker sounds…

Opening track, ‘The Incredible Machine’ kicks into action furiously with rich melodic vocals from vocalist, John Knight to accompany the intricate guitars and changeable backdrop. The intelligible transitions quickly show their talent and craftsmanship and prove they run a tight ship, with all the rights cogs turning in unison, coming together to amass to six minutes of epicness. Luckily they grip you and give you many ‘reasons’ to keep listening…

‘White Circles’ has a more serene atmospheric approach in contrast initially, helping to show the diversity and range of vocals and sounds they can portray, before they go fully charged and up the angst with aggressive vocals and menacing guitar riffs; The guitars particularly shine here, with an impressive solo, although each member gets their moment to revel, and as a collective unit they are unstoppable rampaging on…

‘Human Inhuman’ features some interesting rhythms and time signatures which make this stand out, with sweet melodies and vocal lines that soar and drive it. It contains some impressive instrumental sections that will draw in fans of bands like Dream Theater, as you get a feel for the bands many musical influences coming through. ‘Conscience’ opens on a blazing harmonic guitar intro that is bound to impress, with guitarists Ian Knight and Jack Murton in their element, and again showing as throughout their technical abilities.

The first single and closing song ‘Esc Ctrl’ is a perfect introduction and representation of the band, as it immediately asserts their unique progressive sound. This is flawless with slick guitars, brilliant production and demanding powerful vocals. You can’t escape from their huge consuming sound, once you hear it you are hooked! They leave you hanging and wanting more as we reach the end.

“Justify & Reason” displays exquisite textured and highly melodic metal that still packs a deadly bite. Each song is expertly crafted and progresses effortlessly in an epic manner, aided by the sheer length of all the songs, as well as the rich flair of sounds and technical showmanship exhibited throughout, in every element. The bands already signature sound stands strong and it will surely assert itself in the metal scene. There is simply no ‘justified reason’ not to listen and admire this impressive collection of songs.

Vanderberg - 'Devil May Care' Debut Album Review

German guitar virtuoso and songwriter, Marc Vanderberg strikes with his debut album, "Devil May Care" following the success of his EP, "The Four Elements". Both his EP and the anticipated debut consist of collaborative offerings from his friends and fellow like minded musicians to assemble an impressive collection of metal songs...

Opening song 'Godfather' is a sorrowful and beautiful atmospheric instrumental to set the tone for the rest of the album...

The title track has a menacing, melodic and progressive sound, reminiscent of Dream Theater and old school metal with exceptional lead guitar and licks throughout as you would expect from Vanderberg. However impressively the guitar solo featured here is actually the work of eleven year old, Dustin Tomsen who Marc spotted on TV and asked to play. No regrets here I'm sure!

'Key To Your Heart' was Marc's first ever song he wrote, and one that he should be proud of, as it has a brilliant anthemic massive and classic sounding chorus, wrapped in sweet complex guitar-work.

The somewhat controversial 'Pray' focuses on the pressing mater of the presidential run this year, which is fairly evident with lyrics such as, "Love trumps hate, feel the Bern and make America great again" and "between the devil and the deep blue sea, your candidates suck, don't blame me'. This may just be the most prominent lyrical content he has written to date.

'Infinite Love' is more of a slower ballad number with an all consuming ambience, drawing influence yet again from his many musical influences, this time from guitar expert Yngwie Malmsteen.

The next song picks up the pace again with 'Storm, Thunder and Lightning' and has an 80's power rock sound with an extremely catchy chorus and memorable dynamic guitars. This is about his favourite sport boxing, which is obvious, with lyrics like: "I hear the bell, first round of boxing and I can tell you, my adrenaline is rising high".

'Smoking Kills - But Only Love Can Break Your Heart' was a nice surprise as I have reviewed Luna Rise before, so it was nice to see this collaboration with front-man Chris Divine. This is a love glam rock number, and Chris brings a sensual charm with his deep toned voice which is complimented well by Tave Wanning of Adrenaline Rush. This is a great ending, as this displays yet again a different sound.

This debut offers a lot of variety in terms of mood, lyrical content, skilled musicians and of course and most importantly diverse sounds. Each track highlights Marc's composition and guitar capabilities brilliantly and makes for a solid enjoyable debut that any metal fan can appreciate and respect. Marc should be very proud of what he has accomplished, especially by letting his personality and influences shine throughout, and having a great time with friends along the way.

Mammothfest presents FEED THE RHINO Sat 1st April 2017, plus supports!

Satisfy Your Metal Appetite With Feed The Rhino Plus Loads Of Incredible Diverse Support Acts!

Following the huge success of last year’s Mammothfest which took place in October 2016 and marked their biggest event to date, with larger venues and well known metal acts, Textures, Venom Inc and Conan leading the brigade that led to the victory and accolade of being almost a complete sell out and going on to earn them three festivals award nominations , including the UK Festival Awards in two categories, Best Metropolitan and Best Small Festival 2016 as well as the TBFM Best Independent Festival 2016. The winners are yet to be announced for TBFM so watch this space!

Mammothfest doesn’t leave us in the dark for long as they are thankfully back rearing their menacing head in 2017 and ready to make a massive impact (complete with a metal mammoth concept) and to fulfil a promise.

Unfortunately FEED THE RHINO had to cancel their performance at Mammothfest 2015 due to ill health. But now they are coming to Brighton as they said they would, to the delight of their South Coast fans on Saturday 1st April at The Green Door Store.

Feed The Rhino have been described as too multi-dimensional for the hardcore scene, way too gritty and willing to burn the rule book to ever be considered a metal band and far too inventive to ever be pigeonholed by punk. The band has a strong history of standing out from the crowd over the course of their short career.

Mammoth Mad - Director Steve Dickson

Stephen Dickson (Mammothfest Director) remarks..."We were very disappointed to learn FEED THE RHINO were unable to play but their management, agent and the band were clearly also just as disappointed as us and made very clear promises to recitfy the situation by returning as soon as possible. Health comes first so we were just glad to learn everyone was OK and so here we are, honored to welcome them to Brighton for what is going to be an incredible show with also a stunning line up of support acts from across the UK that will make this a show to remember!"

This event will be an all-day show with ten bands supporting Feed The Rhino, including plenty of acts that have graced Mammothfest in the past. The line-up will be incredibly diverse as the likes of Magna Carta and Seething Akira provide the party metal vibes, delivering a brand of metal and electronica and an incredibly fun atmosphere.

Other festival alumni includes Worthing's Bleed Again, who was one of the highlights of Mammothfest 2016. With a new album due in May, we expect another wild set from them. Core of iO will be on the bill to unleash a level of technicality to blow your mind. The Five Hundred kicked off Mammothfest 2016 with a monstrous attitude and the Nottingham lads return to Brighton to get brutal with us once again.

Brighton's Hawka haven't played the festival before, but this is a great opportunity to show off their ferocious nature which is influenced heavily by the likes of Lamb of God and other NWOAHM style acts. Kickfist delivers a style of industrial nu-metal, think SOiL grooves with eerie Rob Zombie quirkiness.

To add another dynamic, As Flames Rise bring a savage atmosphere to the table with their melodic metalcore influence. Pussy Liquour is an all girl punk band set to unleash pure uncensored female rage. End Of Salvation then comes with a whole new meaning of heavy, being one of the angriest sounding bands on the whole line-up.

You don’t want to miss this immense show, so come down, have a blast and help the mammoth thrive!

Scallywags Alestorm Temporarily Dock To Start Next Musical Adventure Titled "No Grave But The Sea"!

Popular Pirate Metal act Alestorm from Scotland have just revealed they are heading to the studios to work on their next swashbuckling release.

The band said:

"We are very thrilled to announce that we have entered the studio to record our fifth full-length album, entitled "NO GRAVE BUT THE SEA"!
We will be spending the next month at Alpaca Ranch Recording Studio in Orlando, USA, with producer Lasse Lammert once again at the helm. This will also be the first full release featuring our grandiose guitarist Máté Bodor!
This is the point where we would usually tell you this album is going to be darker and heavier than our previous works, but that's probably not true. It is, however, full of epic songs about pirates, drinking, and pseudoscientific cryptogeography.

We'll have a bunch more updates for you over the coming weeks and months, including the album cover, track list, release dates, and more!

Keep your wits about you and try not to sink overboard until the next update on this exciting album!
