Finnish melodic death metallers RE-ARMED unleash their fourth highly anticipated album on June 5th via Black Lion Records titled Ignis Aeternum which is Latin for 'fire forever' which seems a very fitting title for what is to come...
Opening track 'Dive Within' is powerful and fast throughout with quick fierce vocal bursts matching the speed and tone of the instruments wonderfully. It ends on a ambient beautiful note and gives you everything and more to keep you gripped.
Soaring single 'Beyond The Horizon' features endless resonant and striking guitars which makes it exhilarating throughout, as well as memorable clean vocals in the chorus, making a nice contrast to the harsher vocals and acts as a brilliant representative track for the band and album. It is solid and slick with technical instrumentation and tonnes of depth, something the band thrives on. This is one to stick on repeat.
'Ode To Life' opens with some strong and prominent bass and great lead guitar work as you come to expect, as well as another cracking melodic and massive chorus. 'Eager To Collaspe' starts with an hauntingly beautiful piano intro before the heavy mass of instruments kick in, this is well structured and crushing.
The epic dramatic moments in 'Resistance' makes it one of the heaviest colossal offerings being dark and delicious whereas the explosive 'The Hollow Lights' is upbeat with some alluring synths creating an all-consuming sound with yet more stunning guitar work and craftsmanship from start to finish.
'Remained Unbounded' sees more high reaching guitar work and like the meaning of 'Unbounded' they have no limits, they inject so much into this hefty track and demand many a repeat listen.
'Words Left Unsaid' features an intense intro and we are graced with more clean vocals which are well placed and provides another massive and memorable chorus. 'Voyager' sees guest vocals from Micko Hell (Denigrate, Gloomy Grim, Million Dollar Beggars, etc.) and is one of the most upbeat sounding tracks aided by clean strong vocals and the synth tones, adding more diversity to this tremendous release.
The final track 'Built To Last' ends in an monumental way and keeps things optimistic as it encompasses all their best and finely crafted elements and doesn't hold back, making for a menacing and blistering way to close.
'Ignis Aeternum' is intelligible melodic metal at its finest, the fire is bright and all-consuming and not likely to burn out any time soon. The album is electrifying and gripping, each track has so much depth and intricacies and is superbly crafted and delivered. Their fine blend of death metal, thrash and symphonic elements is truly compelling and majestic.
