About Me - My Musical Journey!

Hey everyone! My blog recently renamed (January 2017) Mad About Rock was previously just known as carinasmusicreviews.blogspot.co.uk. It's run solely by myself (Carina), so a bit about me...

I'm a digital content editor/press/PR officer/freelance writer/insert extra here ect (basically I do a lot of things relating to music!). I have been writing for music sites/magazines for over 8 years now. I started out writing for a site called Totally Unsigned, which was for all genres, then I got asked to write for an underground metal site called Basement Sound. I was with Basement Sound (Records/Radios) for 3 years, getting some experience of radio shows, record labels and promotion, as I was an Editor/A&R/Promotions for them, until the creator of it decided to call it a day on it due to other commitments, so I took over the site..all was good until someone hacked that site!

So here I am, on my own personal space! I currently write for Stencil Magazine, Dark Art Conspiracy and Metal On Loud as a regular contributor and occasionally write for Indie Band Guru. In the past, I have written for Ryan's Gig Guide (printed), Angle, Sound and Motion, CMS and more. Also as a freelancer, I write one-off guest pieces/features also and have had features in Terrorizer, Burning Fist, Brighton XYZ magazine and more. All of my previous work is/will be put up on here, as its nice to have a place to put it all! Also, I like to continue promoting bands as much as I can, and regularly get promo releases sent to me from big metal/rock labels, as well as awesome underground bands! I write original interviews/reviews/news/features for Mad About Rock as well as publishing everything else I do for other sites and publications.

I also interview bands, and to date I have had the pleasure of interviewing members from the likes of huge metal/rock bands such as, Trivium, Skindred, Wednesday 13, Halestorm, Shinedown, Atreyu, Papa Roach, Bullet For My Valentine, AFI, Billy Talent, Alestorm, Straight Line Stitch, While She Sleeps, Chris Jericho, Textures, Venom Inc & more!

I have also covered/reviewed live events such as MammothFest where I also was a PR Assistant for them when first starting out and now (since 2016) I'm on the press team as it's a festival I'm very passionate about. I have reviewed other events such as Download Festival, Metal Hammer Awards and Breakout Festival for Planet Loud.

I'm constantly expanding my musical ventures and have started doing some music PR work too for The Origin Agency.

I also studied music at college, so I have a BTEC National Certificate/Award as I play guitar also. Basically, music is a big part of my life, which I'm sure many others can relate too!! In October 2015, was lucky enough to visit the awesome folks at Kerrang (the biggest rock magazine going!), as I got selected for journalism skills day with Kerrang, so got to meet and get advice from the team there, which was so surreal, seeing as grew up reading, and one of the reasons I wanted to get into music writing! In April 2016 I got to go back to Kerrang Magazine for a week work experience which was amazing and received some brilliant feedback!

If you want me to do a review/interview or want to contact me about anything else music related please get in touch via the 'Contact Form' on the site.
Anyway thanks for reading and checking out my work - appreciate it greatly!

Keep rocking and discovering new awesome music! And let me know of any new music out there worth checking out!!

Carina, Mad About Rock

  1. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation however I to find this matter to be actually something which I think I'd never understand. It sort of feels too complex and very broad for me. I am looking ahead on your next submit, I will try to get the hold of it! gmail sign in

INTERVIEW: Cellar Darling (Switzerland)

INTERVIEW: Cellar Darling (Switzerland)

Cellar Darling is comprised of Anna Murphy, Ivo Henzi, and Merlin Sutter who recently formed following the spilt from previous well-known folk metal band, Eluveitie. The trio have been hard at work since, creating their anticipated debut album 'This Is The Sound' which was released June 30th via Nuclear Blast Records and have impressed fans and press alike with their fresh and unique sound which has been dubbed as "the new wave of folk rock“. This is an exciting and busy time for the band, so I caught up with them to find out about their origins, their new album, touring and what is in store for the band amongst other things..

Can you tell us about the formation of Cellar Darling following leaving your previous band Eluveitie and how the band came to be?
Merlin: What I remember most clearly is how quick it went. As you might know, the whole thing with Eluveitie came very unexpected for us - we were informed of a decision by the remain…

REVIEW: Bobaflex - Eloquent Demons

Hard Rockers Bobaflex from West Virginian are back to wreak havoc with their eighth album ‘Eloquent Demons’ which is the follow to 2015’s ‘Anything That Moves’, this sees not only their first release through Thermal Entertainment but their first actual label release in a while after the band decided to go independent. They are a very hardworking and tireless band, having extensively toured, and even setting records for this, they certainly don’t do anything by half measures.
The opening intro and title track sounds very appropriately evil, with a creepy intro speech to set the scene whilst we wait for the demons to be fully unleashed…
First proper track ‘I Am Nightmare’ immediately sees heavy dark guitars and melodic group singing, which give it a classic feel with a gritty edge and is possesses a hell of a powerful chorus, not to mention a killer solo – this will be hard to forget.
Keeping the momentum going is ‘Long Time Coming’ which is equally as hard-hitting, with groove ridden and…
