Transnational shoegaze/experimental trio healthyliving (Maud the moth, Falloch) share video for “until”

healthyliving is the project of long-time collaborators and friends Scott McLean (Falloch) on bass, guitars, and production, Stefan Pötzsch on drums, and Amaya López-C (Maud the moth) on voice and lyric writing. The shoegaze/alternative trio released their two-track release, until, last month on digital/streaming platforms. Check out the video for 'until' below: “‘until’ was the first track written for the band, this was before we had any defined idea of what we were going to be doing as we hadn’t discussed the direction of the band before we had any music; it was informed on reacting to each other’s expression rather than a fixed direction,” shares Scott (bass, guitars). “Although ‘until’ is very different from ‘below’ they are both developed in the same emotive world but we are just responding to it in a different way, with ‘until’ being far more aggressive and ‘below’ having a much more introverted feel.” “For this video I tried the same approach as for ‘below’, but t...

REVIEW: I Am Pariah - 'Charm Before The Storm' EP

Rising British nu-metalcore trio I Am Pariah from Stoke On Trent, UK will self release their new three-track EP ‘Charm Before The Storm’ 27th November 2020. This release sees them turn things up a notch with more metal experimentation following the release of 2018's successful 'Procreate//Annihilate' EP. Opening track 'Suck It Up' is fast, varied and has an anthemic chorus aided by Benjamin Antony James unique vocals which help give them an extra edge. A decisive and crushing way to kick things off. 'Sicko' is the heaviest and most aggressive song featured on the EP and highlights their nu-metal sound most prominently with strong guitar work and an unhinged charged sound throughout which works wonderfully. The closing song 'Kill The Modern World' is the most diverse and experimental offering with stand out clean vocals and ambience throughout. The track takes an unexpected soaring twist towards the end, making it very expansive. 'Charm Before ...

REVIEW: Spiricom - Hammer Of Witches EP

Spiricom is a instrumental act comprised of duo Steven K. Smith (percussion, keyboards and synths) and Marc Cody (Guitarist) from Ohio. This new EP consists of three companion pieces which evoke how men wielded pain, fire, and unyielding conviction in the pursuit of holy purification. So join them on their enlightening discover... The opening song 'Strappado' which translates as a form of torture is tense with hush voices and alarming synth noises which seems fitting but it quickly progresses into something more calming and ethereal yet keeps an underlying sense of sorrow. It features more layers and tunefulness as it goes on and the ending cleverly picks up where the beginning started and ends with some eerie spoken words making for a captivating start. 'The Burn' is the shortest offering and is ambient, hopeful and depthful, making for a great and pleasant track and one to let wash over you and reflect upon life. The final song 'The Witch Hammer' has a mor...

HAEMA Announce Debut EP 'Insurrection'

HAEMA Announce Debut EP 'Insurrection', To Be Released Via Sliptrick Records On October 31st Haema are an industrial-influenced experimental groove metal four-piece based in Northamptonshire, UK. Recently, the band has signed to metal label, Sliptrick Records, who will release the quartet's debut EP, 'Insurrection' on October 31st, which was recorded at Initiate Audio & Media by Neil Hudson (Krysthla/Gutworm). Formed in 2015, Haema encapsulates the essence of modern metal that likes to combine various styles of heavy music together. The four-piece hones in the heaviness and ferocity of groove metal, providing the crunchiest of hooks. This is balanced out by the infectiously catchy hooks reminiscent of the nu metal scene in the early 2000s. All the while topped off by a layer of electronic sounds and machine gun like precision found in industrial. Think if Fear Factory, American Head Charge and Machine Head were chucked into a blender, there’s a d...

Bast - Spectres Album Review

Bast is a black metal/doom trio who like to experiment and their debut album, "Spectres" fully embraces this; the album has been re-released and repressed on vinyl marking a busy year ahead for the band.. Opening song, "In The Beginning" is an atmospheric suspenseful largely instrumental number, but eventually is complimented by distant resonant screams, leaving a very gloomy presence in it's wake... "Denizens" contains powerful menacing screams which grab your attention, along with the crushing dark backdrop. This possesses clever tempo changes and progression with characteristic moody breakdowns to pound your ears further!  Title track, "Spectres" is faster paced than previous offerings, with ever demonic vocals, which are accompanied by instruments which take you on a journey of dark adventure and sense of story telling within the strong instrumental sections. Interestingly titled, "Psychonauts" which is the longest ...

Benjamin Teacher - MindsEye (Debut) Album Review

Benjamin Teacher is a multi talented musician, singer, songwriter, street performer and producer from London, who has been noticed by the likes of Billy Sherwood, Lady Gaga and Vince DiCola (Rocky, Transformers The Movie Soundtracks) and here in his debut he showcases his talents and passion in his own unique style..let us journey into his 'mind's eye'... Opening song, 'Stratmosphere' has an air of positivity about it and Benjamin show's off his many talents as everything you hear is done by him..he shows his guitar skills further in the instrumental atmospheric track, 'Welcome To The Galaxy' - I always enjoy a instrumental - well a good one! I think its a true test of musicianship if it can stand alone without the focus of vocals, as the instruments have to be melodic and stand out perhaps more to keep the attention of the listener..and that's just what he does! The short but sweet, "Venus Loves Jupiter" graces us with an elegant key...
