PENNYWISE RELEASE ‘ACE OF SPADES’ COVER TAKEN FROM THE FORTHCOMING ALBUM 'KILLED BY DEAF - A PUNK TRIBUTE TO MOTӦRHEAD'

Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge comments about their cover of Motörhead's timeless anthem, 'Ace Of Spades': “Getting into punk rock around 1980, basically the only metal band that was allowed to be part of the punk rock scene was Motörhead, as far as I was concerned. If you saw somebody show up in a jean vest with the Motörhead patch on the back it was like, “There’s a metaller, but he can hang with us!”. ‘Ace of Spades’ was the track where you heard that and went, “That’s not metal, that’s punk rock!” Heavy metal and punk rock! It's fair to say that these two noisy tribes now have a great deal in common—often melding together, almost indistinguishable, to produce bastard offspring of their own. But it wasn’t always this way. Indeed, there was a time when fists were more likely to be thrown than bumped, and beers more likely to be hurled than shared—except when it came to Motörhead. That was the one band we could all agree on. The one band that was truly ours! WA...

“Ah-ha-ha. Ever get the feeling you’ve been cheated? Good night.” Sex Pistols fans will finally be able to judge for themselves with the release for the first time of three full live albums from the band’s legendary 1978 US tour. This year will see the San Francisco show and performances in Atlanta (South East Music, 5th January 1978) and Dallas (Longhorns Ballroom, 10th January 1978) given special edition coloured vinyl releases before all three are made available in a three-CD set and for digital download. Even had the band not imploded soon afterwards, the tour would still have had a place in rock and roll history, the band’s reputation preceding it across America’s conservative heartlands. John Rotten (aka Lydon), Paul Cook, Steve Jones and Sid Vicious were sent into venu...

This character in the song is fed up, he's had enough, and he’s gonna light it up. He’s ready for a fight. And I definitely sense a lot of that around me. Growing up, some of my favorite songs were by punk bands that were just like, “I'm sick of your shit.” And that was ok! It wasn’t like a negative thing to have those feelings and express that. And I think that's kind of the vibe of where “Light It Up” is: You're fed up, you've had it and you want to do something about it. That’s one of things I've always loved about punk rock. It’s always been about letting out your aggressions, and I think that’s still true. I still love writing songs ...

Ahead of the EP and upcoming live dates, the group has released protest track ‘Fundamentals’. Watch ‘Fundamentals’ (official music video): https://youtu.be/djuL9LDGjE0 'Fundamentals' explores the frustration and embarrassing nature of finding recourse in mainstream solutions to physical and mental health issues, solutions that have previously been prescribed - unsolicited or otherwise - by others unaffected by these issues, i.e. who have not had to suffer or agonise to 'get there'. It denotes the irrational feeling of injustice in the face of smugness by others at how this journey has unfolded, whether intentional or otherwise. Since forming in 2018, Penny Rich has become synonymous with a raw, invigorating sound that blends the evocative vibes of early Sub-Pop with a contemporary twist. Known for their skin-prickling, abrasiv...
