Folk metal driven by Aztec gods: Cabrakaän announce their new album 'Aztlán' + release video single 'Mictlán'

Cabrakaän is a Mexican-Canadian folk metal band that relocated from Mexico to Canada, shortly before the global pandemic, after a moving performance in Calgary and friendships made as a result. Formed back in 2010 in Mexico by composer, drummer/percussionist, black/death metal shouter and producer Marko Cipäktli and classically trained soprano vocalist Pat Cuikani, the band quickly began to shake up the scene with sensational live shows. Inspired by their shared love of the diversity of Mexico's indigenous languages and cultures, the at first glance disparate duo combines a passion for raw metal with folk music and opera added in. The disruptive nature of their own ancestral roots reach both deep into the Mesoamerican culture of the Mexica/Otomi people and simultaneously into the Spanish culture of their repressive conquerors. This makes Cabrakaän a gang of the driven, of explorers and cultural ambassadors. The appeal of the disreputable – the denied world of the Aztecs (Mexicas)...

UK Symphonic Folk Metal Clan BRING TO BEAR reveal second new single "Time To Burn"

Bring to Bear is a symphonic folk metal band from the UK, on an adventure of making metal with meaning and looking to inspire others along the way. The idea came to life during lockdown in May 2020 by long-time friends and bandmates Hristo Nikolov and Ian Tarboton. They quickly put together their first material and set about expanding the clan. One by one the band came together, each with the same desire and a unique set of skills and stories. Bring to Bear combines the ethereal tones of lead singer Izabela Smyt with the harsh growls of keyboard-accordionist Ian Tarboton, using the raw power of drummer Simon Jones as the backbone for a solid metal pack comprising guitarists Hristo Nikolov and Nik Rotas, and bassist Richard Knight. Guitars swap between lead and rhythm, often play-fighting with accordion, to create strong melodies and plenty of opportunities to head-bang. Bring to Bear seeks authenticity and meaning through music that gives a feeling of adventure, discovery, and ...

REVIEW: Solarcycles - 'Ethereal Storms' EP

Solarcyles are a folk metal band from the Netherlands who incorporate Celtic and Scandinavian influences giving them a very alluring and interesting sound. The band describes their music 'an esoteric journey propelled by forces unable to behold'. They formed around five years ago and released their debut EP 'Ethereal Storms' in 2017, I didn't have the pleasure of hearing the EP back when first released but I'm very glad they were bought to my attention now... Intro and opening song 'Hold On To The Sun' is short but impactful being atmospheric and setting the scene for what lies ahead and transitions wonderfully into 'Setting Sun' which blazes to life with fast guitar licks reminiscent of Nightwish instrumentally. We are graced with alluring vocals from Sascha Van Der Meer to accompany the lively folk instruments that are skilful and enchanting as the vocals throughout, this is a very enjoyable and ambient experience. 'Seven Spheres...
