EXCLUSIVE FEATURE: OPENSIGHT's Songs That Influenced Them

We checked in with rising UK hard hitters OPENSIGHT and asked the band to exclusively reveal the five songs that have greatly shaped their sound, and here's the lowdown: "Choosing only five songs was difficult, but it was also a really interesting and cool exercise. Opensight has always drawn inspiration from different places: heavy metal, hard rock, cult cinema, vintage video game music, progressive music, spy themes, horror scores and plenty of other corners. Rather than choosing five favourites, we thought it would make more sense to pick songs that connect in some way with the ingredients behind our new album, The Outfit. Of course, that means leaving out a lot of artists who have been hugely important to us, including Faith No More, Iron Maiden, Cynic, Fabio Frizzi, Jerry Goldsmith, Black Sabbath, Henry Mancini, Stelvio Cipriani and many more. Their influence is still there somewhere." OPETH - The Lotus Eater "The entire journey of Opeth has influenced Open...

VISHNU'S REST share debut concept EP 'Fours of Nature'

VISHNU'S REST, the dynamic duo of vocalist Don Wade and guitarist Chrys Johnson, are thrilled to announce the release of their debut concept EP, Fours of Nature. Originally launched on Bandcamp on 4th December, the album is now live on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music. Fours of Nature is a 14:44-minute exploration of cosmic cycles, symbolism and paradox, drawing inspiration from the myth and lore of Sri Vishnu and Hindu cosmology—filtered through a Western metal lens. The four tracks weave intricate tales of nature’s forces, complemented by a diverse and talented lineup of guest musicians, including Jesse Zuretti (DAATH) on drums and the incredible Devin Townsend on bass, the latter also mixing and mastering the EP. “‘Fours of Nature’ is an apex project for us,” shares Johnson. “We’re not full-time musicians, just two lifelong hobbyists with day jobs who were fortunate enough to bring this vision to life. This project is deeply personal, and we’re ...

Devin Townsend announces new studio album ‘PowerNerd’ & releases video for title track

Devin Townsend is pleased to announce the release of his forthcoming new studio album ‘PowerNerd’ on the 25th October 2024 (InsideOutMusic). Devin Townsend’s career is one of many distinct eras. He’s been the leader of Strapping Young Lad, the lynchpin of the Devin Townsend Project and the co-architect of country duo Casualties of Cool, all while maintaining his prolific and lauded solo project. Now, the polymath’s newest era starts with ‘PowerNerd’. “It was a conscious thing,” Devin says of his brand-new album, the music on which he wrote in just 11 days. “I thought, ‘I’ve spent so much time overthinking every aspect of my work – what would happen if I didn’t?’ Maybe I would have the opportunity to be a bit more direct with what it is that I’m trying to do. I really wanted to see if I could cut through some of the meandering.” A song that embodies that, is the album’s title track (which features a guest spot from Jamey Jasta), and you can watch the video for that high-speed ramp...
