REVIEW: Metallica: M72 World Tour Live From Arlington, TX, Night Two 21/8/23 Live In Cinemas!

The biggest metal band in the world, Metallica, took their M72 World Tour to a new level by streaming the two live shows from Arlington, Texas on August 18th and August 20th via Trafalgar Releasing to audiences worldwide in cinema screenings. The band played two completely different setlists, with songs from across the group's 40+ year career, ranging from 1983's debut 'Kill' Em All' to 2023's new release '72 Seasons'. Audiences who attended both nights wouldn't have witnessed the same song twice, presenting Metallica fans with a unique opportunity to experience - or relive - the band's acclaimed M72 World Tour and offered an excellent opportunity for those who couldn't make their tour in person or attend both nights of their World Tour. As I wasn't in Texas for the in-person event, I attended my local cinema in South East England, UK, for night two on Monday, August 21st, due to the time differences worldwide. It was great seeing Metal...

Book Review: Swing of the Blade: More Stories from Metal Blade Records

Swing of the Blade follows Brian Slagel's critically acclaimed 2017 book, For the Sake of Heaviness, which offered insight into how Brian, a metal-obsessed teen at the time in California, built the revered Metal Blade Records label. Brian received requests from metal fans eager to hear more of his stories and metal wisdom, and the new book Swing Of The Blade lives up to this promise. The foreword comes from legendary guitarist Kerry King of Slayer to help demonstrate Brian's much-loved and respected reputation in metal. Metal Blade Records was the first label to sign Slayer and was crucial to Slayer's early career. The book offers fond memories of Brian looking back at his career and giving honest insight into running a music business and the realities of it, the good and bad. He is very straightforward and honest in his anecdotes which is refreshing. One of the best things about the book is reading about the start of the LA metal scene in the early 80s, which Slagel help...

Motörhead release demonic 'Enter Sandman' video

There has always been a strong link between the pioneering Motörhead and mighty Metallica. A unique bond of friendship between the two has stood over the decades, with Metallica even playing Lemmy’s 50th birthday in 1995 all dressed up as the great man himself, under the moniker of The Lemmys. In turn, Motörhead have paid homage to some of Metallica’s finest compositions, even winning a Grammy for their cover of ‘Whiplash’ in 2004. However their cover of one of the most iconic hard rock classics of all time, ‘Enter Sandman’, has been largely overlooked until now. Originally recorded for an ECW Wrestling compilation in 1998 (which was also nominated for a Grammy), the song has been unavailable outside of the original CD release. But Motörhead Day is the perfect opportunity to shine new light on their brilliant take on the Metallica original. In this incredible new animated video , take a horrifying nocturnal journey through the nightmares of a child who is haunted by the evil sand...

METALLICA "72 SEASONS” TITLE TRACK & NEW VIDEO OUT NOW

Metallica has unveiled the title track of its forthcoming 12th studio album, 72 Seasons. A seven-and-a-half-minute opus that opens the new record, “72 Seasons” is the fourth advance offering from its namesake—following the recent release of the “epic” (Rolling Stone) “If Darkness Had A Son,” hailed by Consequence as “a sonic retrospective of (Metallica’s) career,” as well as the “scorching” (Guitar World) “Screaming Suicide” and “thundering, breakneck” (Billboard) first single “Lux Æterna." “72 Seasons” sets the tone for the expansive and unrelenting 12-song, 77-minute album. The Hetfield/Ulrich/Hammett-penned epic is nothing short of an embodiment of the concept behind the new record’s title, as previously detailed in James Hetfield’s own words: “72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves. The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting ...

If it's a human experience, we should be able to talk about it. You are not alone." “Screaming Suicide” follows in the path blazed by “Lux Æterna” — the album's first single and video , hailed upon its November 28, 2022 release as “thundering, breakneck” (Billboard), “gut-punching” (Rolling St...
