  Catfish lead vocalist and guitarist Matt Long was diagnosed with bowel cancer a year ago, and recent scans revealed that the cancer had spread to his liver and stomach lining. Matt’s mum Fiona Long has also set up a GoFundMe page aiming to raise £100,000 for private treatment in the US for his cancer treatment. A description on the Crowdfunder reads: ‘Matt has been battling bowel cancer for just under a year and despite surgery and chemo, his latest scan shows that the cancer has spread into his liver and stomach lining. His cancer team have said although there is the option of trying a different type of chemo, they don’t hold out much hope that it will cure him and is likely to at best extend his life a little.   On 15 March 2024, Mark Knopfler will release a new, special recording of his anthemic ‘Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)’, to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and its American equivalent Teen Cancer America . On Saturday, the track was given a preview for Newcastle United fans at St James Park before their Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The song is the club anthem, played at every home game and precious to the fans. The new version was given an extended preview for 50,000 supporters who were encouraged to pre-order the song , with net proceeds going to the charities.   On June 29th Download Festival and The Heavy Metal Truants will launch the Download 20 Auction to coincide with Download Festival’s 20th anniversary which it celebrates this June. This historic event will see the last 20 years of legendary Download Headliners contributing to a collection of unique and rare memorabilia which will be auctioned off to support four children’s charities.
