Ascending northern alt-rock trio CANE ROUGE unleash their sophomore EP, 'Lights Out', on Friday 10th October. The EP’s title track, 'Lights Out', has just been released as a single, and you can watch the video here:

Comprised of Ant Clarke (vocals/guitar), Dale McGee (drums), and Joe Harrison-Brown (bass), we exclusively chatted with the band and asked them to offer up the key songs that have shaped their sound:

Ant's Track Choice:

Pixies – Gouge Away

"This song is like the perfect portrayal of loud quiet loud that our sound is hugely inspired by. The way it builds after that bassline into that chorus is just perfect. As a 3 piece we like to emphasise on the loud and this song is a great example of that."

Ant's Track Choice:

The Stooges – I Wanna Be Your Dog

"Right from the off, the feedback of that fuzzy chainsaw sounding guitar. That’s a massive part of our live sound, I absolutely love feedback. Combined with the enigma that is Iggy. Pure punk in its earliest form. We used to cover this in the early Rouge days when we didn’t have enough original material to fill a set!"

Ant's Track Choice:

Fontaines DC – A Lucid Dream

"I would say Fontaines are a big influence on me which shows in Cane Rouge. Grian’s vocal delivery combined with that chaotic post punk sound and wailing guitar. He’s really got something to say and a point to prove which I think reflects in the music of ourselves."

Joe's Track Choice:

Jimi Hendrix – Voodoo Child (Slight Return)

"It was probably the first song I remember hearing that wasn’t pop music. It had so many wild noises that I just didn’t understand. The crazy noises and sounds from it just stuck with me and it’s still got all of its power and range nearly 60 years on."

Dale's Track Choice:

Queens of The Stone Age – No One Knows

"No One Knows by Queens of the Stone Age is one of those songs I just don’t get sick of. It isn’t particularly focused around the drums but they still shine through. Fairly subtle but still powerful in the verses and paired with powerhouse fills in the chorus’, it’s a perfect drum part in my eyes."
