Metallica – Leper Messiah

"Leper Messiah demonstrated that heavy music could be thoughtful, atmospheric and genuinely unsettling. Its dark themes, layered arrangement and powerful riffs create a sense of tension that runs throughout the song. The combination of narrative, groove and storytelling continues to influence both our songwriting and the themes we explore lyrically. The song's examination of greed, manipulation, blind faith and humanity's addiction to things that are often harmful yet hiding in plain sight remains particularly influential. It doesn't hurt that it's also got a fantastic middle section and solo, both of which we remain unapologetic fans of."

Iron Maiden – The Evil That Men Do

"The Evil That Men Do perfectly captures many of the qualities we admire in great heavy music: strong melodies, powerful storytelling and an emotional depth that lingers long after the song ends. It's also one of those rare songs that has stayed with both of us for years.
