UK road warriors SILK SPINSTER, are set to drop their self-titled debut EP on Friday 1st August and it’s a potent statement of intent. Ahead of the release, we exclusively spoke to the rising metallers and asked them to give us an exclusive track by track breakdown of the EP:
MIDNIGHT LIFE
"This is one of our earliest songs. An ode to horror films of the 1980s and other similar songs of the same period such as The Ripper and Killers by Judas Priest and Iron Maiden respectively. A fanciful tale of seeing red which keeps its tongue firmly in its cheek."
"This is a fantasy tale about slaying a monster. It is also a song about going on tour. Within this track you can find references to some of our other tracks like Pulling Me Under, Rev It Up, Feel Your Fear and Rockstar - can you find them all?"
"A song of love and loss. Reflecting on the past, feelings of betrayal and inadequacy and the loss of a potential future all resonate through the lyrics. A solemn ballad which is typically uncharacteristic of the band; though stands as one of their most meaningful tracks."
“This song is called WHITE LINES, and it’s not about road markings” - is a phrase often heard when this track is played live. A tale of excess, vice and, of course - illicit substances. A track about burning bright and burning fast.
"You’re laid awake at night, head buzzing with the possibilities of what could go wrong. Catastrophising about the future - unable to relax, your body is tense with anxiety and anticipation for the worst. It feels like the world is bearing down on you. Feel Your Fear encapsulates this feeling."
ROCKSTAR
"Rockstar tells the story of a self entitled, arrogant wanna-be Rockstar who tries his luck with a lady down at his local bar. The whole affair ends in him being laid out in the street with a mouth full of blood. This is how NOT to behave as a ‘Rockstar’.”
SILK SPINSTER are: Kye ‘Kyrantula’ Coulson (Vocals); Tom ‘Riff Lord’ Nolan (Guitars), Will ‘Sinzz’ Styan (Bass), and James ‘The Boy’ Rokyckyj (Drums).
