EXCLUSIVE FEATURE: NO MURDER NO MOUSTACHE 5 Songs That Influenced Sound

 

Towering Celtic punk artist NO MURDER NO MOUSTACHE (Owen Crawford) continues to climb from the underground with his stunning new album, 'As Everything Else Decays', out Friday 27th February. The new anthemic single, 'Wasted', is out on Friday 20th February, accompanied by a striking new video. We caught up with Owen and exclusively asked him to name the top five songs that have influenced his sound:

The Rumjacks - Bullhead

"It’s hard to pick from the tons of Celtic Punk songs that I love and have clearly influenced me, but this one is an absolute favourite. The drop out breakdown in the middle is something I use a lot, and switching from accordion to banjo, as well as writing about the Irish War of Independence as I do in “Rebellion” from my first album."

Bad Religion – American Jesus

"One of the things that Bad Religion do SO well is vocal harmonies and crossover vocal lines with different melodies and lyrics being sung at the same time between the lead and the backing. I’ve always been super into that and use it in a lot of tracks in different ways."

After the fall – 1994

"“Second Chance” on the new album takes a lot from After The Fall’s hardcore / melodic skate punk crossover. Although I don’t use this style a lot, I really like the short guitar runs that they use, as well as the super raw vocals and heartfelt personal lyrics, which has definitely inspired me to be more personal in my own."

NOFX – My Orphan Year

"Another band I could pick 50 songs from, but this track really inspired me to include “As Darkness Falls” on the new album. I really connect with the personal vocal over the acoustic that brings so much authenticity despite not having the greatest singing voice in the world, but it doesn’t matter because it’s absolutely real."

Against me – Your God (God’s Dick)

"I like to put some funny and absurd bits into my songwriting too to kind of break up all this serious stuff. This track is exactly that. It’s got a great feel with pushing guitars, pumping drums and catchy vocals, while the lyrics are funny but with a much deeper message. Exactly as I’ve tried to do in “Grey Tracksuit”."
