EXCLUSIVE FEATURE: iAtlas 5 Songs That Influenced Them

i-ATLAS have unveiled their new single and video, Touch The Sky, out now, ahead of the release of their debut EP, 'Beyond The New Horizon', out on Friday. Watch the video, 'Touch The Sky', here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3MzcA8C1kY

With the band on the rise, we exclusively spoke to Ondy and Andre about the tracks that have helped shape their sound:

Ondy’s choices:

Limp Bizkit – Gimmie the Mic

"I picked this song, coz I love Limp Bizkit’s phat riffs and even phatter beats, but I thought this song was a missed song by most people. Being on the Results May Vary album, surprisingly, it’s not even a Wes Borland riff, as he’d left the band then. I think the DJ effects are awesome; that kinda give a small mellow breakdown, just for a few bars at the end of the verses, before then going mental again. I love it!"

Muse – Unravelling

"In my opinion, by far the most amazing Muse track ever. My Mrs and I quite often rock out to Muse very early in the morning before she leaves for work. A great way to start the day. This track is true musical craftsmanship at its best. It starts so euphoric, musically and vocally, then kicks in, with more uplifting vocals for the chorus, but then you have these 8-string suuuuper heavy guitar riffs that just blow my mind. It’s a beast of a track!"

Rage Against The Machine – Know Your Enemy

"To be honest, I could have picked every track from the first Rage Against The Machine album. When this album came out, I wasn’t listening to much rock music at the time, I was more into lighter music, Simple Minds and Duran Duran. So this album was a real turnaround in my life. I didn’t even own the album; my brother had it on tape (remember those days?), and I’d quite often borrow it without permission and constantly be playing it.

The whole album is full of sick riffs. I was tempted to choose Bullet In The Head, as I think that’s one of the best outros of a song ever. Just over a 2 minute ending. Awesome! But I picked Know Your Enemy, as I love the way it goes from a funky riff to gritty hard-rock riffs, and back and forth. Typical RATM vocals, but at 2.36, the short breakdown, there are some guest vocals by Maynard Keenan of Tool. I didn’t even realise this until a couple of years ago. The guitar solo after that is awesome, great effects!

RATM has gotta be the band that’s inspired most of my bass riffs and sound. I never realised Tim Commerford played with fingers until many years after discovering them, coz it really sounds like a pick sound. When I was listening to them originally, Youtube didn’t exist!!"

Dougy’s choices:

Alice Cooper – Halo of Flies

"One of my earliest influences from the Killer album. Halo of Flies is an epic 8-minute Alice Cooper masterpiece with an evocative storyline, drama, sci fi and espionage against an increasingly progressive and shifting mood. There are instrumentals, elaborate guitar work, strong bass lines and tribal drumming. This is one song that helped shape the sound of iAtlas."

Pantera - Domination

"Pantera's Domination is brutal in its delivery. Melodic thrash in the first part featuring a grinding guitar riff and aggressive vocals. Featuring one of my all-time favourite guitar riffs and a soaring solo that pulls back into a deliberate, solid slow groove. Phil's vocal vibe is inspirational, guttural, full of spirit, adding a 5th d
imension I often call upon for earthing."

Their debut EP, 'Beyond The New Horizon', is out on Friday 11th September.

Track listing: 1. Freak The Trance; 2. Touch The Sky; 3. Rather Me Than You; 4. 3iAtlas; 5. No Time.
